August 21st

On my first day I got a tour of Tamana (the city I`m living in) from my host dad. Most of the places we went were his businesses, which he has many of. Our first stop was Arest, his sports club. from what I saw, it had a swimming pool and aerobics, there may be more, but I`m not sure, all I do know is that I get in for free. Our next stop was Sensyudaigaku Tamana, my high school. It looks more like a small liberal arts campus, aside from the sand pit they call a soccer field. The next place we went was an onsen (hot spring) that my host dad owns. In order to use the onsen, you have to be very comfortable with male nudity, not just your own, but also of the many old, wrinkly men around you. Once I got past that, the onsen was extremely relaxing, and it had many different areas you could go to, including the hottest sauna ever.... maybe because Tamana is as hot as a sauna in the summertime. i get in for free at the onsen also, so no complaints there. Right next to the onsen is a Japanese diner, which is not like an american one at all. First of all you take your shoes off at the door, secondly you have to sit on the floor, and if anybody has had to do that, they know it is very uncomfortable (my foot kept falling asleep). Although the food was very good, it was very different. I had fried fish. Not some fried fish.... a fried fish. Head and everything. And guess what all you eat of it.... head and everything. It was good actually, not great, but good. There was also a lot of other food, mainly soups and rices. The Japanese eat a lot, contrary to what I first believed. Japanese ice cream is a little different, just like everything else in Japan. It is shaved ice with flavoring, then a scoop of ice cream on top. It is something that you can try at home.... and uh get an exotic uh taste of Japan. So we went home for a while and had dinner later. Then at ten o`clock at night (9 in the morning for those on state college time) Minami (my host sister) and I went to the golf range, which is a long, arduous minute-long walk up the street. And of course, we get in free here as well. It is a nice place, with the automatic ball placers, I could deal. The golf ranges are massive things that can be seen from miles away. They are surrounded by nets, really high ones. They aren`t very long, even I hit the back net almost every time with an iron. After golf, i went to bed, because I was tired.
