I have been to Mt. Aso twice, I expected to go a third time, but that changed for some reason that I will explain at a later time. My first trip to Mt. Aso didn`t really count as a trip, because I didn`t actually see the volcano. So really there is not much to say about that, except that at the end of the day I was let down when I realized I didn`t see anything nearly resembling the volcano I had imagined. Good news though, I did go a second time, and yes I did see the volcano. This was my first time seeing a volcano, and I will admit it is cool. Staring down into the void of some big crater, really wishing it would explode.... and hopefully not taking me with it. The volcano was spewing smoke, it smelled like sulfur, none of the Japanese really seemed to be bothered by it other than the fact that it smelled. But I saw the one eyed workers, who all had eight fingers.... OK, maybe that is uranium and other radioactive stuff, but it did smell really bad, I mean people were making some funny faces that would scare small children. I have also come to discover that tourist attractions are very crowded, much like the rest of Japan. There is no getting in touch with nature, because there are thousands of other people there too. What I`m saying is Japanese is not the ideal place for tourist attractions. But I digress.... the third time I expected to go to Mt. Aso, I went to the Ashtika coast instead. It was very beautiful and surprisingly uncrowded, although still dotted with cheap tourist gimmicks that places like South of the Border offer. The coast reminded me of Grenada, a place down in the carribean, ask my dad about it sometime. Unfortunately I didn`t bring my camera, because I was planning on going to Mt. Aso, which I already had more than enough pictures of.
