I was preparing during the entire month of October for the Bunkasai, which every school in Japan has. It means culture festival, but it really isn`t as great as it cracks out to be. first of all, I was in a punk band, which I enjoyed none too much. Punk isn`t my favorite music, but it gives me the chance to play the drums, so I jumped on the opportunity. The kids in the band are pretty talented, but with that said, it is still punk. We played five short songs, that seemed to end before the song really got started. I got the members of the band turned on to real rock and roll though, which they have never really heard. Between basketball practices, I will still play with the band, and we will most likely change the image. Some kids watching our show were receptive, but it certainly didn`t appeal to everyone. But the fact that we were still a band up on stage means that everyone loved us. In fact many people flat out told us they love us. Not the music particularly, just the fact that they love us. They called us kakoi, which means handsome. That just goes to show how image matters. The band does have a repeat performance this Sunday during waku waku hiroba.
The rest of the bunkasai was taken up mostly by an english recitation contest. The other acts were a DJ, and the brass band. That`s the whole bunkasai, not much of a culture festival. Every school has it, but what sets my school apart is the waku waku hiroba on Sunday, that is a unique thing to Sentama schools, which is based in Tokyo.
