Some people have probably figured out by now, that I am on the soccer team. They have an A and a B team, I`m not really sure which one I`m on. They play me on both. The most important thing to know is that it is so insanely hot in my town, and the field is sand, which renders my soccer playing experience a living hell..... or at least that`s what I thought in the first week, when I almost keeled over and died every practice. Nowadays (three weeks later for those counting) I am doing much better. My endurance is built up, and my touch has vastly improved. On Saturdays we play games, and we always win. Let me just say this, the team I am playing on is very good. They have discipline beyond anything that American kids could ever accomplish. They still laugh and have fun, but they set up the drills themselves, and do the sprinting and long distance running on their own. Yes there are coaches, but all they have to do is coach, the kids train themselves. This team is one of the most tightly knit teams I`ve seen in any sport, they are definitely the best looking sports team at my school. All of the soccer players stand out at school, and you can tell they are proud to be part of the team. When I came to Japan I didn`t expect the kids here to be extremely good at soccer, but I figured out the reason for this. They practice after school, same as America, but for four hours, yes you heard it right, four hours. It`s even hot for the Japanese kids who have lived in this town all of their lives, so you can imagine how i feel. Right now I play about five minutes a game on both the A and B teams, so I have no idea what`s going on. I have had incredible games when I was in, recording some assists, but my playing time still seems to be lacking. Everyone should be proud of me just for staying on the team, because most kids who played soccer in Japan quit, I have talked to about five kids who did that.
